Howdy Campers!
Happy Poetry Friday..and...today is the (gasp!) last day to win TeachingAuthor Jill Esbaum's brand new rhyming picture book about a hyper baby killdeer,
I HATCHED! All the details of how to enter are here!
PF is at The Miss Rumphius Effect today--thanks,Tricia!
Earlier this week poet Joan Bransfield Graham stopped by on her blog tour to offer a terrific Wednesday Writers' Workout based on her new book, The Poem That Will Not End—Fun With Poetic Forms And Voices.
She reminded me how much fun it is to write mask poems--poems from the point of view of something else.
Here's one...an idea I've been tossing around for decades...

April -- Thank you for the gardenia poem. They were my grandfather's favorite poem. The scent always makes me think of him.
ReplyDeleteI always knew gardenias were sweet. ;) Cute poem, April.
ReplyDeleteLaura--I remember buying my mother a gardenia when I was about nine years old for 50 cents...a big splurge...
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely poem, April. I think my grandmother had a gardenia bush at one time. Love their scent. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great poem, April.
ReplyDeleteAnd, BTW, the Poetry Friday schedule is also in our sidebar here on TeachingAuthors. :-)
Beautiful poem, April--an intoxicating combination!
ReplyDeleteApril, you've packed a lot of imagery in those few little lines. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThey do smell heavenly. Beautiful poem, April! When I smell them, I remember my high school dances. Gardenias seemed to be the thing for corsages!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a blooming moon!
ReplyDelete(And the Poetry Friday schedule is easier to find than by searching -- it's right there in our sidebar if you scroll down. Plus, the updated schedule is now available on the Kidlitosphere Central website: http://www.kidlitosphere.org/poetry-friday/)
April - so sweet, this bouquet of lovely poem & lovely images.
ReplyDeleteGardenias actually scent our backyard air each May & sometimes again in the fall, from 2 long-established bushes so it reminds me how lucky I am.
For my own mask (is this also a persona poem) effort, I think I may play around with something in the voice of our cat, or this very old shell that I found.
Thank you TA!
